Podcasts

The implication of podcasts into education is one of the new ways of teaching for teachers in higher education. It is thought that these podcasts can enhance the learning of information from a lecture or class notes. With having podcasts available the students can not only go back a listen to a lecture again, but also can create their own podcasts for projects if applicable.

I can see many benefits from having a professor in a huge lecture that may put his/her lectures into a podcast along with having physical class. If a student would want to go back and listen to a part of a lecture they might have not understood or missed a part that was talked about to quickly, the podcast would allow them to do so. This also shows that it could bring about a very negative side, being that it in someway could promote a student to not go to class. A student could use the podcast from a class as their substitute to class. In the mean time the student could very well be missing out on vital information that could be given during the class time that is not put on the podcast.

With technology, especially with education, becoming ever popular I can see in the very near future that the use of podcasts, especially in higher education are going to become very prevalent. I know that technology in education is suppose to bring about new and easier ways of learning information, but it also brings a new challenge with it. This challenge that is brought to a student particularly in higher education is the choice to still go to class and not to become a lazy student in result.
